Feral Cat Rescue
of Southern Maryland

Name: Valentina

Gender: Female

Birthday: February 7, 2019

Valentina is looking for a new home. She is an incredibly sweet cat who loves her people and gets along well with dogs, but not so well with other cats. She is a tortie and has the expected "tortitude" so she can be dominant with other animals. She's happiest with her people though. Valentina is a velcro cat. She will follow you around, interested in what you're doing and she will participate if possible. She is a delight and such a character!

She does have some trauma from her previous home. A child she grew up with would have psychotic episodes that Valentina was plotting to kill the family and so the child attempted to kill Valentina. We don't know exactly what happened to her, but Valentina is terrified of children to the point that she'll attack them. Adults only for her next home.

She also has some trauma just living with children who didn't respect her. She is used to her signals (ears back, hiss, growl) all being ignored while she was grabbed. The kids probably didn't mean to upset her. They were just playing, but for her, she felt she was in danger. She has a tendency to bite at first when she needs space because she doesn't know if you'll listen to her signals. It's important for her new home to understand cats and not get close and personal too fast with her. She will learn quickly that you'll listen to her signals so she doesn't have to do that. Her foster mom doesn't have an issue.

You can develop a very close bond with this cat. She can be your best friend, sensitive to your moods, your most patient listener and your most reliable companion. But she will take time and work. If you are willing to be patient, she's worth it.
